What this is for

Fine lines come from collagen loss, sun damage and repeated movement. Vitamin A (retinol and retinaldehyde), renewal serums and peptides are the best-supported ingredients for smoothing them at home.

Which product to choose

  • Your first retinol: Obagi Retinol 0.5 28g.

  • Already used to retinol: Obagi Retinol 1.0 28g.

  • Dry or easily irritated skin: Obagi Retinol + PHA Refining Night Cream 50ml, or SUZANObagiMD Retivance Skin Rejuvenating Complex 30g.

  • Tired, less firm skin: Obagi Nu-Gen Cellular Renewal Serum 30ml (10ml travel size also available).

  • Quick softening of lines: Obagi ELASTIDERM Advanced Filler Concentrate 20ml.

  • Dry or mature skin: Obagi Hydrate Luxe 48g at night, and Obagi ELASTIderm Facial Serum 30ml for firmness.

How to use

  • Evening: cleanse, let skin dry fully, then a pea-sized amount of retinol over the whole face. Moisturise after.

  • Start 2 to 3 nights a week and build to nightly over 4 to 6 weeks as your skin settles.

  • Keep it away from the eyes, nostrils and corners of the mouth.

  • Do not use acid exfoliants on the same night while you are getting used to retinol.

  • Morning: Nu-Gen or a vitamin C serum, moisturiser, then SPF 50 every day.

What to expect

Some dryness, flaking or tightness in the first weeks is normal. Texture smooths at 6 to 8 weeks and fine lines soften over 3 to 6 months. Do not use retinol or retinaldehyde if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Prescription options

We have prescription vitamin A treatments that are stronger than anything sold over the counter, and prescription treatments for expression lines. Both need a face-to-face consultation first.

In clinic

Deep lines and lost volume are structural and a cream cannot replace volume. Dermal filler, skin boosters and microneedling are options we can talk through with you.
