Pigmentation and Dark Marks
What this is for
Sun spots, melasma (darker patches on the cheeks, forehead or upper lip), marks left after spots and uneven tone are all extra pigment. Pigment fades slowly and comes back quickly with sun, so the routine and daily SPF matter as much as the product.
Which product to choose
Strongest home routine: Obagi Nu-Derm Skin Transformation System Fx, Normal to Dry or Normal to Oily.
Lighter route for dullness and early sun damage: Obagi-C Fx System, Normal to Dry or Normal to Oily.
Single brightening creams: Obagi Nu-Derm 3 Clear Fx 57g and Obagi Nu-Derm 5 Blend Fx 57g.
Serum: Obagi-C Fx Clarifying Serum 30ml.
Sensitive skin: SUZANObagiMD Claribright Radiance Brightening Lotion 50g.
Toner step: Obagi Nu-Derm 2 Toner 200ml.
How to use
Morning: cleanse, tone, brightening serum or cream, moisturiser, then SPF 50. Reapply SPF when you are outside.
Evening: cleanse, tone, brightening cream, and the exfoliating step if you use the Nu-Derm system.
With a system, follow the order on the box. That sequence is why systems outperform single products.
One day without SPF can undo weeks of progress. Wear it every day, all year.
What to expect
Tone starts to even out at 8 to 12 weeks, and Nu-Derm usually needs 12 to 16 weeks. Dryness and flaking early on are common. Melasma can be lightened and controlled but it is long term, and sun, heat or hormones can bring it back.
Prescription options
Stubborn pigmentation and melasma often respond best to prescription-strength treatment. We have prescription options, available only after a consultation where we check they are safe for your skin.
In clinic
IPL treats sun spots and uneven tone. Not every pigment suits light treatment, melasma and darker skin types especially, so we assess your skin first.
